Phone Number Usage
Your phone number is collected and used for the following purposes:
To verify your identity and prevent abuse of the platform
To enforce platform bans against users who violate our terms of service
To share with service providers (facility and event owners) when you make bookings, so they can contact you about your booking
Your phone number is stored securely and is not sold to third parties.
AI Features
LOKL uses Google Gemini (via Vertex AI) to generate calendar summary text and images for pages. When this feature is used, the following data is sent to Google's AI services:
Page name
Event titles, descriptions, dates, times, categories, and venues
This data is used solely to generate the requested summary. No personal user data (email, phone number, or profile information) is sent to the AI service. Google's Vertex AI data processing terms apply.
Information Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information in the following circumstances:
With your consent
With service providers when you make bookings (your name and phone number are shared with the facility/event owner)
To comply with legal obligations
To protect our rights and safety
With service providers who assist in our operations (see "Third-Party Services" below)
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate LOKL:
Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions) — for core app infrastructure
Google Vertex AI (Gemini) — for AI-generated content summaries
Expo (push notification delivery) — for sending push notifications
These providers process data on our behalf under their respective data processing agreements. Data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including the United States. Where such transfers occur, they are protected by appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission.
On-Device Storage
LOKL stores certain preferences locally on your device, including your selected places and recent searches. This data is not transmitted to our servers and can be cleared by uninstalling the app.
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Data Retention
Account data (email, phone number, profile) is retained while your account is active
Upon account deletion, all personal data is deleted within 30 days
Push notification tokens are deleted when you disable notifications or delete your account
Booking records may be retained in anonymised form for service provider records
Consent records (timestamps of terms acceptance and age confirmation) are retained for the lifetime of the account for legal compliance
Children's Privacy
LOKL is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hello@lokl.co and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. For significant changes, we will notify you via a push notification or in-app notice.
